Navigational Aid In Darwin
At most coastal sites, navigational aid structures experience significant deterioration due to harsh environmental conditions. To extend the lifespan of these marine structures, an enhanced design approach was required.
Following consultations with the port authority’s maintenance team, it was decided to remove the top portions of the beacon piles above the waterline. These sections would be replaced with bolted components, simplifying future repairs and replacements. Additionally, the beacon piles were standardised with removable, uniform tops, and the ladder fixings were upgraded for improved durability.
Treadwell provided a low-maintenance, easy-to-install FRP maritime solution, supplying FRP grating, structural sections, handrails, and hatches to withstand the demanding environment. With its non-conductive and RF-transparent properties, FRP was the ideal choice for this application.
