Lake Rotorua Viewing Platform
Lake Rotorua Viewing Platform
Rotorua, New Zealand – Known for its bubbling mud pools, natural hot springs, geysers and the trademark smell of sulphur, Rotorua offers experiences for everyone from adventure-seekers to those just looking to unwind. A great lookout point into Lake Rotorua is right in front of the Sudima hotel, where a new viewing platform has been installed.
Treadwell was engaged by Fulton Hogan to supply the FRP products for this new viewing platform, this was to replace the deteriorating timber deck.
Project Challenges
- Rotorua has a highly corrosive environment, a direct result of its geothermal activity. Selected materials used had to be corrosion resistant.
- Decking had to be anti-slip for user safety.
- Decking had to accommodate high heeled footwear.
Project Information
Project Category: Recreational Public Infrastructure
Scope of Work: Supply FRP grating
Treadwell Products :
- EX-Series® GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh
Treadwell Solution
- GratEX® FRP grating is constructed from premium resins, with corrosion resistant properties, UV stabilisers and fire-retardant additives, making it ideal for this outdoor application.
- GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh grating is constructed as large panels, allowing for a uniform surface without gaps between panels.
- Treadwell Ex-Series® GratEX® FRP grating is available with pedestrian grade grit to provide an effective anti-sip surface. This is impregnated into the surface, eliminating the risk of delamination.
- The aperture in the micro mesh grating is high-heel friendly, while allowing water to fall through, minimising the risk of stagnant water and debris build up.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
