Pedestrian Access Bridge
Pedestrian Access Bridge
City of Hobsons Bay, Victoria – Situated at the northern end of port Phillip Bay, Hobsons Bay includes over 20 kilometres of coastline, and is also home to significant coastal wetlands, creek systems, native grasslands and important flora and fauna habitats. A wooden pedestrian bridge leading to the Altona Yacht Club had rotted and deteriorated, and posed a safety hazard to users.
Treadwell was engaged to provide the new decking for the bridge.
Project Challenges
- Selected decking had to be anti-slip as well as high heel safe for user safety.
- The decking would need to remain robust while being exposed to the outdoor environment and be able to accommodate heavy foot traffic.
- Being in a high traffic area, downtime for maintenance or repairs had to be kept to a minimum.

Treadwell Products :
- ACCESS SYSTEMS GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh Grating
Treadwell Solution
- The openings on Treadwell’s GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh grating are tiny enough to be safe for high heels, while the grit is robust and anti-slip, without causing abrasions to skin.
- GratEX® FRP grating is constructed from premium resins, with corrosion resistant properties, UV inhibitors and fire-retardant formula.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
