Water Recycling Centre
Water Recycling Centre
Recycled water plays a vital part in water management and aiding environmental protection. The use of recycled water in Australia has grown over the past decade. Key schemes in NSW, Queensland and South Australia are starting to utilise large untapped wastewater resources saving money and preserving our precious drinking water supplies. As part of this effort, Treadwell presented the solution of FRP grating and handrails in the design and delivery of a refurbished portion.
Project Challenges
- These plants process some of the most aggressive and corrosive liquids to be transported in any piping system and the resulting corrosion is an ongoing problem. This corrosion ultimately affects maintenance in the long term at these facilities.
- Installation and time consumption due to the size of the project. Concerns were based on the traditional materials utilised in such a facility previously.
- The cost of maintenance of the facility is a concern once installed as previous materials required consistent attention to upkeep the usability of the centre.

Treadwell Solution
- With Treadwell’s FRP structural systems, grating and handrails, the management team and client at Parklea were assured of durability and performance as Treadwell’s FRP is virtually immune to all external corrosion and will not rust.
- Lightweight and boasting almost zero maintenance, it was an easy decision to install the proposed profiles.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, thus keeping maintenance costs as low as possible.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
