National Park Viewing Platform and Boardwalk
National Park Viewing Platform and Boardwalk
A tourist site since the mid-1800s, this site has one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Australia. Boasting hiking trails and cycling tracks, this national park has a wealth of information about the history, wildlife and aboriginal culture of the area. A convenient boardwalk sets a trail for visitors to the viewing platform from the tourist centre, showcasing the splendor of the breathtaking views.
As part of regular maintenance and checks, NPWS decided that the boardwalk and viewing platform were due for an upgrade. Treadwell was engaged to retrofit FRP grating to their boardwalk and viewing platform.
Project Challenges
- The selected decking products had to withstand continuous exposure to a damp environment as previous materials needed regular maintenance and deteriorated very quickly.
- Installation should not disrupt the natural flora and fauna of the park.
- General construction challenges in remote areas of the park meant that products had to be lightweight.

- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, GratEX® FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
